PRODUCE KEEPER TRAY™ USE & CARE

  • DO NOT use Produce Keeper Tray™ in conventional or convection ovens, microwave ovens, under browning elements, or on stovetop. For extended storage of fresh fruits and vegetables, use the SNAPWARE® Produce Keeper Tray™ in the bottom of your 6.5 cup square Pyrex® glass container. The tray captures the natural gases emitted by produce to slow down the ripening process which will keep you food tasting fresh longer. In addition, the tray elevates your produce above excess water to reduce mold on tender berries and lettuce. For best results:
  • do not wash produce before storing
  • store fruits and vegetables on top of dry Produce Keeper tray in sealed container
  • store sealed container in refrigerator
  • wash produce before eating
  • The Produce Keeper Tray™ is most effective at extending freshness when storing fruits and vegetables that emit, or are affected by, high amounts of natural ripening gases. Examples of affected fruits and vegetables includes, but is not limited to apples, pears, nectarines, kiwi fruit, broccoli, cauliflower, lemons/limes, avocados, asparagus, cantaloupe, and cucumbers. Freshness results may vary depending on the type of produce stored. The Produce Keeper Tray™ is dishwasher safe, top rack only. Dry thoroughly to maintain the tray’s effectiveness for up to one year.

  • Q:

I have the plastic set. Love the storage sizes. I froze food with red sauce and now I cannot get the containers clean. The lids are fine. I soaked in vinegar, I have used Brillo and still not clean. Any suggestions beside not doing that again? Thank you in advance.
Asked on 6/22/2017 by Roz from Long Beach, NY

      A:

Hi Roz. As plastic is porous certain foods can and will stain them. Unfortunately red sauce is on of these foods. We would not recommend using Brillo as this can scratch the plastic and give future sauces more surface area to adhere to. You can try using a mixture of lemon juice and baking soda. Make a paste and spread it on the dish. Let it set for awhile and then wash. This may take some if not all of the stain out.

  • Q:

    Another set purchased at Costco...
Nothing in/on the box nor website regarding 'care'--are these containers and lids dishwasher 'top-rack-safe' only?
Asked on 8/25/2016 by Max from Memphis, TN

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Snapware containers and lids are dishwasher safe, and may also be washed by hand. When using dishwasher, load dishes to avoid bumping against other items during dishwashing cycle. Use non-abrasive cleansers. If scouring is necessary, use only plastic or nylon cleaning pads, again with non-abrasive cleansers.

  • Q:

I bought the plastic and glass sets at Costco and love them. I am noticing that the plastic containers are now getting white spots on the inside of the containers and cannot seem to get rid of them. Is this safe? What is it?
Asked on 8/1/2016 by Thom from United States

    1 answer

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

Thom, what you are seeing is called blistering. to prevent staining and blistering, avoid overheating of high-fat foods, sugar, oils and tomato sauces in the containers. The plastic containers are made for reheating and not cooking. So, the best way to avoid blistering is to heat the food for about 30-45 seconds, stir it and then heat it for a little longer. Repeat this until the food is heating all the way through.

  • Q:

I often freeze food in my snapware and then microwave the food to heat it up. I usually do not remove the lid when heating the food. I haven't noticed any real wear to the products because of this, but I'm wondering if I'm supposed to remove the lid before reheating the food to keep my product from warping or wearing too much or because it may not be the safest thing to heat food with the lid still on it. (I keep it on to prevent the food splashing inside the microwave, but I have wondered if any chemicals or plastic may be getting melted along with my food)

It is safe to heat your dish with the lid on, however we do recommend that it be vented to the side to prevent vacuum sealing.

  • Q:

    Hello,

I bought this set, Snapware®Total Solution, at CostCo.

There are three inserts; 1), is the steamer tray,2), there are two green inserts. These small, green perforated plastic trays are what?

They do not fit any of the glass vessels.

The instructions explain that they are to be used as inserts to protect fresh vegetables,....how so?

Your web-page does show nor make reference to these items.

    What says you........?
Asked on 9/8/2015 by Nancy the Newbie from Not important Barstow,CA

    • Staff Reviewer

      A:

The steamer tray fits inside the rectangle glass container during microwave use. The lid will not latch closed while the tray is in the container. It must be vented during heating. The lid is to sit loosely on top of the steamer while it is inside the dish. The green square vented trays are to sit in the bottom of any of the larger glass dishes to keep fruits and vegetables fresh. It does not matter which size they are used in. They can even be placed in a crisper drawer for the same results.
