  • Q:

I have been very happy with this set, however, I am noticing that the finish is wearing off on the inside bottom of the mugs. Little gray lines appear on the bottom. As they are made in China, I am concerned with potential health related problems as their requirements are not as stringent as US standards. I would like to replace these mugs with a Corelle American made coffee mug. Could you please make a suggestion as to a replacement mug for this product.

    Thank you.

We do not currently offer any American made coffee mugs. Although CORELLE® mugs are a hard stoneware surface; the following can leave gray metal marks on your Corelle:

      Metal utensils
      Exposed metal on dishwasher racks
      Contact with metal cleaning pads
Prolonged contact with stainless steel sinks

These gray marks can be removed with a non-abrasive cleaner. Bar Keepers Friend is a professional non-abrasive powdered cleanser perfect for cleaning cookpots and materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, porcelain, fiberglass, glass cooktops, copper, tile, and brass. You can find this product at your local Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, or local hardware store in their cleanser aisles.

We appreciate your concern. World Kitchen values the safety of its products and our consumers. You will be comforted to know that we routinely test our Corelle® products for harmful lead content at certified, internationally-recognized third-party testing laboratories. The tests are conducted using protocols developed by the National Institute for Standards that form the basis for industry standards and regulatory testing mandates for lead leachate in dinnerware (lead content that is not a leachate poses no health risks). The tests take 24 hours or more to perform. Our testing confirms that Corelle® products comply with all applicable federal and state safety regulations, including those relating to lead and other heavy metals content, and they are safe to use in a manner consistent with their use and care instructions.
