Smaller than 9x5
PostedMarch 2, 2012
The actual inside measurement for this pan is 8 1/2 x 4 3/4 and has sides that slightly angle inward at the bottom. It will not hold the capacity that you would expect of a 9x5 loaf pan. That being said, it bakes evenly and the baked product is nicely browned. It may be able to hold a bread dough but will overflow if used for a quick bread that is more fluid. The liquid capacity is exactly the same as a 8 1/2 x 41/2 metal pan that I use. I believe this is the only 9x5 loaf pan that Pyrex makes, I plan to use it for any recipe calling for an 8 x 4 pan. Would have rated 5 if pan size was accurate.

This is not a 9" x 5" pan
PostedFebruary 22, 2012
For over 20 years I've used my pyrex 8.5 x 4.5 x 2.5 loaf pan. I have a number of new bread recipes that call for 9" x 5" pans. This pan is EXACTLY the same as my 8.5 x 4.5. Those numbers are imprinted on the bottom of the older pan. The new ones I bought (yes, I ordered 2) only has "1.5 Qt" imprinted on the bottom. So my rating is about the fact that I was mislead by this product being described incorrectly. Otherwise I love the pyrex products I have. If you want a 9" x 5" loaf pan, do not order this.

I love the old style handles.

I do not like the new style handles (they take up too much room in my cupboards). The old style handles on these are great. I was a bit disappointed that the pans were a tiny bit smaller than my old one that I have had for years. These are a great size for making bread (especially yeast bread).

Perfect size! Great for breads.

Unlike other glass "loaf" pans, this one has a steep taper. The shape of the bread loaf is what you would expect, not squat and flat. Pyrex needs to start marketing these again out in the retail stores.

sometimes the old fashioned way is the best!

Glass pans are terrific for baking because you can see what's happening at the BOTTOM of your bread as well as at the top. I have two that are 20 yrs old and just bought two more for Christmas baking. The ones in this ad are very similar to the older ones I have, but the sides are a tiny bit thicker. This traditionally-styled pyrex is quickly going out of vogue and being replaced by fancier silicone or specially-coated pans. Moreso, pyrex is trying to replace this style with one that has longer handles - easier for gripping with potholders (although this one isn't bad at all) but VERY cumbersome to store. Did I mention that these are also a breeze to clean and you never have to worry about scratches?? Hands down, these are the best bread pans around!!
