Product Use And Care

What is the Use and Care on EKCO® kitchen tools and gadgets?

DIRECTIONS FOR FIRST USE: After removing all labels and packaging, EKCO® kitchen tools and gadgets should be washed prior to first use. Follow the instructions below for cleaning.

CLEANING: A majority of our kitchenware products are dishwasher safe. Refer to packaging instructions upon your purchase to verify that an item is labeled as dishwasher safe. Some exceptions include gadgets with gearing such as can openers, items inappropriate for submerging in water such as scales or dial timers, any items made of wood, and all battery-operated items such as digital timers and thermometers.
For best results, or if in question, hand wash items with a soapy cloth or sponge and dry immediately. Dishwashing tends to shorten the life of kitchenware products due to heat and aggressive detergents currently sold at retail.

STORING: Most kitchenware products are typically stored loose in drawers or counter top crocks. If storing sharp-ended or sharp-edged items, use caution while accessing any such items. While some kitchenware products are suitable for outdoor storage (such as bar-b-que tools) we recommend indoor storage wherever possible for maximum life expectancy.

What is the Use and Care on EKCO RADIANCE® Non-Stick cookware?

DIRECTIONS FOR FIRST USE: EKCO RADIANCE® Non-Stick Cookware should be washed by hand. Remove all labels, wash the pans in hot, soapy water, rinse and dry. For best results, the non-stick cooking surface should be "conditioned" with a little vegetable oil. Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel. This “conditioning” will help to preserve the easy release quality of the non-stick surface.

STOVE-TOP COOKING
EKCO® RADIANCE Non-Stick Cookware is suitable for use on all types of stove-top cooking surfaces. The pans distribute heat so well that only low to medium burner heat is recommended. To brown or sear, preheat the pan on medium heat for 2-3 minutes before adding food. Medium to medium high heat is appropriate for frying, sautéing, and stir-frying.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
NEVER LET A PAN “BOIL DRY” ON A STOVE AS IT CAN CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE NON-STICK COATING AND CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD. A pan that has "boiled dry" could cause the metal to melt down and be dangerous. If the pan should "boil dry," turn off the heat and do not pick up the pan until it cools.

NEVER PREHEAT THE PAN ON HIGH HEAT.
NEVER LEAVE ANY PAN UNATTENDED ON THE STOVE-TOP BURNER.
It is important to use the cookware on a burner of corresponding diameter (or slightly smaller), and at no time should a gas flame be allowed to extend up the sides of the pans as this will cause overheating and staining. It will also cause the handles to heat up and could be dangerous.
Avoid leaving food in the pan to which salt has been added, as this can cause deterioration of the non-stick coating.
Before each use, check the handles to confirm that they are secure. Keep handles from extending over the front edge of the cooker where they can be snagged by clothing or small hands. Similarly, position handles away from other burners or electric units to keep them from getting hot.
Remove the lid by lifting it away from you. Direct contact with rising steam can be hazardous. If your EKCO non-stick cookware uses glass covers, allow the glass covers to cool before handling them, rinsing or placing them in water.
When filled, the cookware can be very heavy. Be extremely careful when moving the pan if it contains hot oil or other hot liquids.
When deep-frying, fill the pan no more than 1/3 full of oil. This allows for displacement of the oil caused by the addition of food and insures adequate coverage so foods will fry evenly. Do not leave hot oil unattended or keep it covered while deep-frying. The cover can be used to control splattering when frying or searing, but it must be closely watched. For best results, change oil frequently when deep-frying.
NEVER use non-stick cooking sprays since they burn at very low temperatures and create residue that may affect the pan's non-stick performance.

OVEN COOKING
EKCO® RADIANCE Non-Stick Cookware can go into the oven only at settings below 350º F. The oven should be completely preheated before placing the pan in the oven, as the temperature may exceed 350º F during the preheat period.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
NEVER use under the broiler as this can cause damage to the non-stick coating, the pans and the handles. ALWAYS use a pot holder or insulated glove when handling the cookware to prevent burns. DO NOT exceed 350º F. NEVER use in the microwave oven, as this will damage the microwave oven.

COOKING UTENSILS
DO NOT use metal or sharp-edged utensils as they may scratch or damage the non-stick surface. USE ONLY wood or plastic utensils.

CLEANING
Allow the pans to cool before adding water to prevent grease splatter and warping of the pans. Wash pans and covers thoroughly by hand washing in hot, soapy water to remove food and grease particles, rinse and dry after each use. Washing the pans in a dishwasher is not recommended. To remove stubborn stains from the non-stick surface, soak the pan in warm water and use a soft brush or nonabrasive mesh puff or pad labeled "safe for use with non-stick surfaces." NEVER use steel wool or scouring powders to clean your EKCO® RADIANCE Non-Stick Cookware. Periodic “conditioning” is recommended.

A spotted white film (minerals from water or starch from food) may form on the non-stick surface. Remove by rubbing with a sponge or soft brush that has been dipped in lemon juice or vinegar. Wash, rinse, and dry the pan.

STORING
Hang pans by the handle slots or store them inside the kitchen cabinet to keep them dustfree. Invert the lids and interleave with a paper towel to prevent possible scratches. Be sure not to store the pans when damp or wet.
