Taking care of the handles

Just wanted to pass along a care guide about the handles that some people are concerned about. I have had Chicago Cutlery for over 20 years and every so often I just apply mineral oil to the handles & wrap in plastic wrap, set sit overnite then wash. My set it still in wonderful shape.

My husband and I bought these because we desperately needed a knife set. We love them! They're extremely sharp, They cut really well, and look wonderful. The only thing I don't like is they don't have any sort of laquer finish on the handles....I'm a little scared of getting a splinter, but other than that they are a good starter knife set, especially for a smaller family since they only come with 4 steak knives.

I am slightly disappointed with the wood handles; I think I was hoping for a more polished finish. I have washed the blades immediately after use and have not immersed the handles in water or used the dishwasher and the wood looks dry and feels rough. I'll treat them with olive oil and hope for a good outcome.

I've owned Chicago Cutlery for over 40 years and love it. So when I got a chance to order this set for my cousin's daughter's wedding, I jumped at it! When I received the set, I was in awe! It's truly classy and I almost wish I bought a set for myself! I know it will be a big hit with the bride and will bring many years of great service to her and her future husband. Chicago Cutlery is the best and this set is truly gorgeous!

I had a small set of cutlery for may years with excellent service but with the addition of an "non-cook" in the kitchen he totally ruined the blades in a couple monnths. The new set is beautiful but I could have easily done without the bread knife. I ordered the 8" slicer to take its place. would also have liked to see sheers insted of the sharpening steel in the set. I find the Chicago Cutlery a little difficult to keep an edge on but its still the best cutlery I've used.
